As of September 1 2007, the Board of Directors included the following members:

Erika Szyszczak (United Kingdom) is the Chair of the Board of the ERRC. She is Jean Monnet Professor of European Law and Professor of European Competition and Labour Law, University of Leicester; Barrister, Littleton Chambers. She has written widely in the field of anti-discrimination law and social law; advisor to the EC Commission; provided advice and training to governments in the new Member States of the EU.

Petar Antic (Serbia) is an advocate for Roma rights, as well as the founder and executive director of the Minority Rights Center, an organisation dedicated to protecting and empowering Roma and other minority communities in Serbia. As a lawyer, he has investigated over 100 cases of discrimination, violence, and unlawful treatment of the Roma community by police.

James A. Goldston (USA) is the Executive Director of the Open Society Justice Initiative. Previously, as Legal Director of the ERRC, he spearheaded the development of ground-breaking civil rights litigation before the European Court of Human Rights, United Nations treaty bodies, and domestic courts in 15 European countries. He has written widely on issues of human rights and racial discrimination. He has engaged in law reform fieldwork and investigated rights abuses in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. He is a Lecturer on Law at Columbia Law School.

Dr Deborah Harding (USA) was a program officer for political development in Central and Eastern Europe of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, and was one of the most successful Western aid experts in building civil society and human rights culture in Eastern Europe. She has recently retired from the position of Vice-President of the Open Society Institute-OSI (New York).

Karel Holomek (Czech Republic) studied mechanical engineering at the Military Academy in Brno. After 1990, he was a Deputy for the Civic Forum on the Czech National Council for two years. He is the Chairman of the Society of Roma in Moravia, the Honorary Chairman of the Society of Professionals and Friends of the Museum of Romani Culture, the Director of the International Roma Center attached to the Helsinki Citizen's Assembly, a member of the government's Commission for Human Rights and the Editor-in-Chief of the Romani magazine Romano hangos.

Dr Krassimir Kanev (Bulgaria) is Chair of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee and Member of the Executive Committee of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (IHF). He teaches human rights and sociology of law at the state universities of Sofia and Plovdiv (Bulgaria). He is also a Member of the Board of Trustees of the UN Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture.

Isabela Mihalache (Romania) is the Senior Program Manager of the Roma Participation Program at the Open Society Institute (OSI) in Budapest, dedicated to Roma inclusion with a specialization in integrating gender throughout her advocacy work at the European and national levels, supporting the process for the consolidation of a new generation of Romani women and men advocates through her direct involvement with the Joint Romani Women's Initiatives of the OSI while building local, regional and international partnerships among Roma stakeholders. She is a Member of the Advisory Committee of the Spolu International Foundation.

Viktoria Mohacsi (Hungary) is Member of the European Parliament, where she is a Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. Previously she worked as Ministerial Commissioner for the integration of Roma and disadvantaged children in Hungary. She has also been engaged in numerous researches concerning segregation of Roma children and other Roma related issues.

Aleksandr Torokov (Russia) is a director of "Roma Ural", a Russian Romani Non-governmental organisation. As an expert to the Council of Europe he participated in round table discussions on Roma issues in Russia 2001-2003. As a member of the OSCE mission he monitored the participation of Roma in elections in several Eastern European countries. He is currently teaching a special course on the Philosophy of Law at the Ural State University.

Staff

Vera Egenberger is Executive Director. Ms. Egenberger brings over 15 years professional and volunteer experience as well as considerable expertise in human rights, anti-racism and anti-discrimination issues. Her background ideally merges practical aptitude in human rights activism and managerial qualities attained at national and international level in the NGO sector, as well at an inter-governmental body. Her previous professional posts include directing the European Network against Racism (ENAR), Brussels, from 1999 to 2005. ENAR is a membership organisation of NGOs in all European Union (EU) member states and aims to influence decision-making at the EU level regarding issues of racism and equal treatment.

Theodoros Alexandridis is Staff Attorney. He received his degree in law from the University of Essex, UK. He also holds an LLM in International Human Rights Law from the same university and is a qualified lawyer in Greece. Before joining the ERRC, he worked at the Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM) as Roma Project Manager.

Azam Bayburdi is Legal Administrator. She holds an MA in Indian Philology from St. Petersburg University.

Tara Bedard is Programmes Coordinator and Senior Projects Manager. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Development Studies from the University of Toronto, Canada, and completed a post-graduate program at Humber College in Toronto in International Project Management.

Dzavit Berisa is Research and Publications Officer. He has a secondary school degree as a miner. Due to the war in Kosovo he didn't have the opportunity to further his education. Since 1999 he is a human rights activist, working to defend the rights of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian refugees in Macedonia.

Anita Danka is a Staff Attorney. She holds an MA in English from the University of Debrecen and an MA in Human Rights from the Central European University. She received her law degree from the University of Miskolc. She worked for the Canadian Embassy before joining ERRC.

Andi Dobrushi is Senior Staff Attorney. He has a degree in Law from the University of Tirana, Albania, and a LL.M. in Law from the Central European University, Budapest.

Dora Eke is Programmes Assistant. She has a degree in Computer Programming (Information Systems option) from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Canada. She managed the Freedom Forum Library at the Center for Independent Journalism for seven years.

Csilla M. Farkas is Operations director. A communications professional who graduated from Eotvos Lorand University Budapest, Faculty of Humanities, holds degrees in English and American Studies and Romanian Literature. Has undertaken post graduate work in film, sociology and communications. Worked extensively in areas of public relations, public affairs, as well as media.

Csilla Kacso is Project Financial Officer. She has a degree in Banking and stock exchange and a degree in Physics and Physics teacher, both from the Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj, Romania. She mostly worked in the field of financial investment, as a software expert, and as an economics and physics teacher. She joined the ERRC in 2006.

Natasha Kravchuk is a Staff Attorney. She holds an LL.D. on children’s rights protection from the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Science. Prior to joining the ERRC, she worked in the "Memorial" Human Rights Center.

Hajnalka Nemeth is the Office Secretary. She started her career as the Secretary to the Executive Director for a Contruction Company. She moved to Budapest in 1990 and worked at MTI (Hungarian News Agency) as an English Language Operator. She has been with the ERRC since 2005.

Ostalinda Maya Ovalle is Women's Rights Officer. She graduated from the University of Sussex (U.K.) in Social Anthropology and Development Studies. Prior to joining the ERRC she was involved in grassroots work in various countries.

Larry Olomoofe is Human Rights Trainer. He studied Social Sciences at Oxford University (University Diploma) and Social and Political Sciences at Cambridge University, England (BA and MA). Upon completion of his studies in the UK, he embarked upon a PhD at the New School University, New York. Prior to joining the ERRC, he was the Project Coordinator of the Civic Education Project - CEP (Hungary).

Julianna Oros is Financial Officer. She graduated from the in Budapest University of Technology and Economics and a post-graduate degree in statistics. She also completed a tax-advisory course. She joined the ERRC in June, 2004.
