Romani Literature, Identity... and You

Sunday, 16 June 2013, from 7:00 pm
Conway Hall: 25 Red Lion Square, London, England

T.S. Eliot Prize-winning UK poet George Szirtes will also be making an appearance, just a month after winning the prestigious Best Translated Book Award for 2013. The event will also feature David Morley, a top UK/Roma poet and translator and winner of 14 literary awards, and Canadian-Bosnian Roma poet, novelist and journalist, Hedina Sijerčić. Works will also be presented by Hungarian Roma poets Karoly Bari, Janos Bogdan and Laszlo Sarkozi, and by Swiss Roma novelist, Mariella Mehr. The readings will be followed by a musical programme featuring performances by the Roma jazz violinist Laszlo Varadi and reggae singer Brina.

This is a unique charity event sponsored by Trafika Europe. Its aim is to foster appreciation of new Romani writing, foreground social issues, and raise regard of Roma contributions in the wider European community.

The benefit will also include an art auction and a roundtable discussion on Roma identity in Europe. The roundtable will be moderated by the BBC’s Nick Thorpe, and will include panel discussion with ERRC Executive Director Dezideriu Gergely and Board Member Dan Pavel Doghi.

Ticket prices: £12 with advance purchase at the Trafika Europe site (discounts available for multiple purchases); £12 at the door for Conway Hall members; £15 at the door for all others.
