March 7, 2003: Published a Polish-language translation of the ERRC Country Report The Limits of Solidarity: Roma in Poland After 1989.

Campaigning, Conferences and Meetings

December 2, 2002: In conjunction with the Bucharest-based organisation Romani CRISS, filed an application at the European Court of Human Rights in Stoica v. Romania, a police brutality case.

December 13-15, 2002: Held a consultation for Romani activists on school desegregation in Budapest, Hungary.

December 18-20, 2002: Acted as trainer in Roma rights issues for human rights officers of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina at an OSCE training workshop, Sarajevo, Bosnia.

January 9, 2003: Submitted written comments on Italy to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

January 11, 2003: Attended Roma Self-Government Elections in Hungary in the capacity of independent observer.

January 15, 2003: Submitted written comments on the Czech Republic to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

January 17-19, 2003: Attended the Sixth Annual Assembly of the International Council on Human Rights Policy in Guadalajara, Mexico, on "Access to Human Rights".

January 30-February 2: Participated in the Congress for the unification of Romani Organisations from the Comonwealth of Independent States and the Baltic States, Smolensk, Russia.

February 6, 2003: Presented human rights research methodology at a training held by the Human Rights Students Initative of the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary.

February 7-9, 2003: Attended an assessment meeting for the "Roma in the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe" Project of the OSCE and the Council of Europe, Bucharest, Romania.

February 14, 2003: Held a lecture on UN CERD at a human rights seminar organised for young diplomats by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Montenegro.

February 17, 2003: Submitted a list of concerns on the human rights situation of Roma in the European Union for assistance in preparation of the 2003 report on human rights in the European Union.

February 17-18, 2003: Attended the "Reflection Group on the Reinforcement of the Human Rights Protection Mechanism" consultation meeting of the Council of Europe's Steering Committee for Human Rights in Strasbourg, France.

February 18, 2003: Held a training session for the Human Rights Students Initiative at Central European University, Budapest, Hungary.

February 20, 2003: Attended roundtable discussions in the series entitled "Beyond Accession" organised by the British Council, Budapest, Hungary.

February 23-26, 2003: Organised a press conference protesting the blocking by parliamentary officials of the passage of anti-discrimination legislation in Sofia, Bulgaria.

February 26, 2003: Submitted written comments on Russia, Poland, and Slovenia to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

February 28-March 1, 2003: Organised a training workshop for Judges on the implementation and enforcement of the EU Race Equality Directive held in Budapest, Hungary.

March 1, 2003: Attended Roma Self-Government Elections in Hungary in the capacity of an independent observer.

March 3, 2003: Participated in Expert Consultation on the Human Rights Situation of Roma/Gypsies in Europe, Rome, Italy.

March 3-4, 2003: Acted as trainer in international anti-discrimination law at a seminar held by the Human Rights Students Initiative of the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary.

March 7-8, 2003: Held a workshop entitled "Human Rights and Discrimination Litigation - Law and Practice in International and Domestic Courts" in Warsaw, Poland as part of a joint project of the Polish Association for Legal Education and the ERRC in cooperation with the Council of Europe.

March 14, 2003: Held a joint briefing with the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights in Warsaw, Poland, on racial discrimination and Roma rights violations, before members of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

March 15, 2003: Presented Roma rights issues at a seminar on "Migration and Integration" convened by the Austrian League for Human Rights, Vienna, Austria.

March 18, 2003: Gave a lecture at an advocacy training workshop organised by the Human Rights Students Initative of the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary.

March 19, 2003: Participated at a UNDP press conference and launch of research on poverty amongst minorities, Budapest, Hungary.

March 20-22, 2003: Attended meeting of the Council of Europe's European Commission Against Racism and Intolerance, Strasbourg, France.

March 22, 2003: Attended as expert a biannual meeting of the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), Bucharest, Romania.

March 24, 2003: Made presentations about Roma in Europe and the work of the ERRC before a group of students from the Centre for European Studies at Jagiellonian University, Poland, Budapest, Hungary.

April 2, 2002: With the Belgrade-based Humanitarian Law Center, filed a communication with the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Durmić v. Serbia and Montenegro, a case of racially discriminatory denial of access to public accommodation.

April 4-5, 2003: Held a workshop with the Greek Helsinki Monitor on "Human Rights and Discrimination Litigation - Law and Practice in International and Domestic Courts", Athens, Greece.

April 5-6, 2003: Attended a meeting on Discrimination in the Criminal Justice organized by the International Human Rights Law Group.

April 6, 2003: Filed a collective complaint against Greece under the European Social Charter over violations of the right to adequate housing, Strasbourg, France.

April 7, 2003: Launched a Romani-language version of the film Ghandi at an International Roma Day event organised in conjunction with the Human Rights Students Initiative of the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary.

April 8, 2003: Attended festivities celebrating International Roma Day in the Roma Parliament in Budapest, Hungary.

April 10, 2003: Participated in an open-day discussion in Hungarian Parliament on Education and the European Union, Budapest, Hungary.

April 10-11, 2003: Attended an OSCE Supplementary Human Dimension meeting on Roma and Sinti and presented ERRC concerns related to coercive sterilisation of Romani women in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, Vienna, Austria.

April 10-12, 2003: Acted as trainer at an advocacy traning session for Romanian Romani activists, organized by the Budapest-based Roma Participation Program of the Open Society Institute in Cluj, Romania.

April 10-13, 2003: Attended an International Romani Studies Conference on Roma, Istanbul, Turkey.
