Cause of Action: Reproductive Rights of Romani Women in Bulgaria

In 2016, the ERRC launched an initiative, in cooperation with the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee (BHC), to address the reproductive rights of Roma women in Bulgaria. This Cause for Action report is aimed at presenting the outcomes of this initiative. The fact-finding investigation revealed that Roma women experience discriminatory treatment, segregated maternity wards, verbal and physical harrassment and obstetric violence in various public hospitals in Bulgaria. Based on these findings, the ERRC submitted a collective complaint against Bulgaria in 2017 to the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR).
