Hungarian State Television attempts to dismiss the only staff member of Romani program

07 December 1999

On September 21, 1999, Hungarian Television (MTV) attempted to dismiss Mr János Daróczi, the only staff member of Patrin, the weekly Romani programme. He was fired along with 530 other employees. Roma Rights organisations argued that the decision endangered the continuous broadcasting of the program and was therefore in violation of the 1993 Minorities Act. Mr Daróczi was reinstated several days later.
